I am new in the freight business, can anyone help me to understand what is the difference between the freight carrier and freight broker?

Answers 1

It is very basic, yet the most important part in the chain of Freight Business. Firstly starting with the Freight Carrier - it is the company that owns and operates a fleet of shipments that are transported from point A to point B. On the other hand a Freight Carrier is a third party organisation that acts as a link between the freight carriers and the customers. It is not necessary that the freight broker will everytime see the freight carrier in physical, but the broker will have a clear idea of how the freight is transporting, helping the customers to track the freight shipment. What most people don’t understand about the freight carrier and the freight broker, is that both are not interchangeable - though they work closely together in the industry. A freight carrier is physically responsible for moving shipments from point A to point B. A freight carrier is a company that owns trucks, employs drivers, and charges for their service of picking up and delivering freight. On the other hand, a freight broker is a third party company that offers lower shipping rates to customers.
