What is BAF and how is it calculated?

Answers 1

For customers to predict and plan the impact of fuel price rise, Maersk Line has introduced a simple factor known as the Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF). BAF is simply calculated as BAF = Fuel Price X Trade Factor - where fuel price is the average of fuel prices at the key bunkering ports and Trade factor is average fuel consumption based on transit time, trade imbalance and fuel efficiency. The new BAF will be effective from 1st January 2019 and the old Standard Bunker Adjustment factor (SBF) will be decommissioned.
