An Airway bill /AWB /Air consignment note is a receipt which is issued by an international airline for goods and is a proof of the contract of carriage /transport, but it is not a document of title to the goods by nature. The Airway bill is an important document issued by a carrier either directly or through its authorized agent. Therefore, the air waybill is non-negotiable transport document that covers the transport of cargo from airport to airport. Airway Bill is not a document of title by nature but however, Airway bill can be prepared in such a way to treat it as a document of title and negotiable document. Airway bill is evidence of completing the terms of shipment. It is the receipt given by the air carrier on receiving the goods. So, once after preparation of Airway bill to treat as a document of title, such airway bill is treated as a document of title and can be used to transfer goods to a third party, not mentioned in Airway bill. Such transfer of consignee can be done by countersigning Airway bill to such consignee.
