Glossary of Shipping Terms


Shipping bill is a legal document to be filed with the customs in order to complete the export customs formalities. Goods can only be exported out of the country after the shipping bill has been checked andendorsed by the customs with a 'Let Export Order' and 'Let Ship Order'.

A properly endorse shipping bill also allows the exporter to claim excise refunds, duty drawbacks, or any other applicable export incentives announced by the government.

There are five types of shipping bills -

1. Free Shipping Bill

2. Dutiable Shipping Bill

3. Drawback Shipping Bill

4. Coastal Shipping Bill

5. Shipping Bill for Shipment Ex-Bond
