Port of Kandla is one of the most important industrial and trade centre located 90 kilometres from the mouth of the Gulf of Kachchh. This natural deep water harbour has a capacity to handle 24 thousand metric tonnes of dry cargo per day.
Facilities on highly versatile site include 21.9 Lakh kiloliters of storage capacity and over 9.8 Lakh kiloliters storage for the private terminals. Port Kandla is also linked to its hinterland by the four-lane national highway, which adds to its economic viability. Featuring 11 hectares of container yard, the port also boasts a 6.5 thousand square meters of container freight station.
The port has been in operation since the late 1931 and was created with a single pier. Following a tradition, it offers faster and much better services than ever before. At present, the port with a quay length of 2532 metres and contains 253 hectares within its custom bonded area.
As the region is more closely connected to the global markets, the port is well known for the imports and exports of various commodities. The port is also working on making the world’s biggest container hub for exporting grains and importing oil.
