Port of La Spezia is one of the most important industrial and trade centre in Ligurian Sea. This vast shipping port covers about 1500 hectares of land and contains 5.1 kilometres (3.2 miles) of docks.

It has five separate world class terminals each specialised in a specific field namely, container terminals, break bulk terminals, oil terminals, RO terminals and cruise terminals. Featuring 35 feet of anchorage depth, the container port has a handling rate of 700 thousand TEU per annum.
The port has been in operation since the 12th century. Following a tradition, it offers faster and much better services than ever before. At present, the port is capable of handling up to 1.2 million of TEU containers 14.4 million tonnes of general cargo, 1.6 million of solid bulk and 2.5 million tonnes of liquid bulk.
