About the port

This port generating 43,000 jobs annually is an independent seaport which eases the functioning of the import-export taking place along the coast. The Port of Tacoma with its marine cargo operations has made its mark in international trade with an overall traffic of 9-13 million tonnes annually.

Handling

It may interest you to know that the local logistics zone of the port is provided with 2.3 acres of warehousing facilities. It is also a multimodal port which specialises with the modern infrastructure of dry bulk terminals, liquid bulk terminals and Ro terminals.

History

Port of Tacoma was constructed in 1833 as a result of the arrival of Hudson Bay Company who were looking for a site for a trading post. In the year 1853, the first cargo was shipped from the port to San Francisco. After which, the port of Tacoma was officially incorporated in the year 1875.

Importance

Well- known for its 40 trans-load warehouses, Tacoma hosts the world’s largestvessels. What’s makes it all the more different is the heavy-haul corridor designated to facilitate the movement of overweight containerized commodities making it its one of a kind port. A port so strategically planned is bound to drive the regional economy serving as the agent of change.
