Port Blair is one of the most important industrial and trade centre in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This vast port is connected to the mainland of India by both air and sea. But it is still not possible to reach port Blair from outside of India.
Covering a total area of 16.64 square kilometres, the port also offers highly versatile warehousing facilities. Providing living and shelter for almost 100,608 people, the port contributes significantly to the economic growth of the region. The port of Blair also has a dry dock for vessels up to 150 metres long.
The port has been in operation since 1789 when Government of Bengal established a penal colony on Chatham Island, named port Blair. The port was named after Archibald Blair of the East India Company. Following a tradition, it offers faster and much better services than ever before.
Serving as the entry point for visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the port is well known for the imports and exports of various commodities. The port selected as one of the cities to be developed as a smart city is aiming to offer the best facilities in the vicinity.
