Ако се занимавате с износ и внос на стоки, ще сте запознати с Хармонизираната система за описание и кодиране на стоките, по-известна като Хармонизирана система (HS) или Хармонизирана система за номенклатура (HSN). Това е универсално приет метод за класифициране на търгуваните стоки. Основната му функция е да помага на митническите органи да идентифицират продуктите и да оценят правилните мита и данъци върху тях. В Хармонизираната система на всеки продукт се присвоява уникален цифров код, наречен HS код. Този код има минимум шест цифри и обикновено може да достигне до 10 цифри (въпреки че Китай има 13-цифрен код).
