Si vous exportez et importez des marchandises, vous connaissez le Système harmonisé de désignation et de codification des marchandises, mieux connu sous le nom de Système harmonisé (SH) ou Système harmonisé de nomenclature (HSN). Il s'agit d'une méthode universellement acceptée pour classer les biens échangés. Sa principale fonction est d'aider les autorités douanières à identifier les produits et à évaluer les droits et taxes applicables à ceux-ci. Dans le système harmonisé, chaque produit se voit attribuer un code numérique unique appelé code HS. Ce code comporte au moins six chiffres et peut généralement comporter jusqu'à 10 chiffres (bien que la Chine ait un code à 13 chiffres).
