FRESH PLAZA | District government offers subsidy to encourage organic vegetable production

The Horticulture Department from Tamil Nadu’s Trichy District has announced incentives to growers to cultivate organic vegetables in the district. The incentive varies based on vegetables as growers will get Rs 1,000 per acre for greens, Rs 1,500 per acre for tomato, brinjal, ladies finger, gourds, and broad beans and Rs 2,000 for cabbage, cauliflower, capsicum and beans. Growers will be also given an additional Rs 200 per acre to meet certification charges.

Although they fell a bit in February and March with the arrival of the new harvest, they have remained at higher than average prices during the same period in previous years due to less area planted, lower yields and transportation issues.

CMA CGM’s UK office has begun taking manual bookings for Southampton calls, while its latest haulage-availability spreadsheet, sent to customers shows that it will not take bookings to and from any port in the UK to any inland destination until at least 12 October.

Kerala state officials announced a minimum support price for farm-fresh fruits and vegetables with effect from November 1. The state will procure the produce when prices drop below cost of production. According to state Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar, the government has earmarked ₹1.1billion for the scheme, aiming to fix the right price for the produce, raise production and encourage farming.
