About the port

Port Klang is an important business centre and the largest port of the country. Since 1993, based on a government directive, the port is being developed to function as the National Load Centre and a shipping hub. In 2016, it ranked 11th on Lloyds List of top 100 ports of the world.

Handling

Port Klang has 4 container terminals with 30 berths spread across a length of 8100 mts. The port is also equipped to handle dry bulk, liquid bulk, break bulk, and automobiles. It also has a distribution park that provides warehousing and multimodal transportation. Apart from the world-class facilities, the port is also home to a Free Zone, which is helping grow the country’s trade.

History

While Port Klang has been in existence since 1511, a port with modern facilities was only constructed in 1901. The newly constructed port was named as Port Swettenham. The port was renamed Port Klang in 1970. In its earlier days, the port was known for export of tin.

Importance

Port Klang provides trade connections with over 120 countries and services between more than 500 ports around the world.
