About the port

Strategically located in Colon, Panama, a seaport on the eastern Caribbean side of the Panama Canal, the port’s location ease the functioning of the import-export taking place along the coast. With this, the Port of Colon has made its mark in international trade with handling over 400 TEU’s annually.

Handling

It may interest you to know that the port covers an area of over 74 hectares along with a 600 metre radius turning basin. With berths specialising in different types of cargo, this port is replete with the modern infrastructure of berths, reefer plugs, an inspection ramp, and Phyto-sanitory zones.

History

Port of Colon started its operations in the year 1850 with the United States finding the City of Colon. But since then the city has always been in crisis with fire or riots. In the year 2003, the port was re-established and the second phase of construction began after which there was no looking back.

Importance

Recognised as an important modern harbour, Colon is located along the major trade routes of Panama. What’s makes it all the more different is the Colon Container Terminal’s maintenance and repair shop that is available 24 hours a day. A port so strategically planned is bound to drive the regional economy serving as the agent of change.
